HMWSSB urged to drop proposal of sewerage tax

Staff Reporter

Hyderabad: The Federation of Associations of Colonies and Apartments (FACA) has demanded that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) drop the proposal of levying a separate sewerage tax for consumption of water and instead, develop a better drainage system and improve maintenance of manhole covers.

Association members in a release said that the HMWSSB authorities should understand that supply of drinking water and sanitation is the most essential service and cannot be taken as source of income by the government.

They also said that it was irrational to collect tax as a very small quantity of water consumed by residents is released into the sewerage.

They further said that the HMWSSB was only concentrating on generating income instead of improving facilities in all colonies under the GHMC limits.
