Two Duronto trains, ladies' special in new time table

NEW DELHI: Northern Railway's new time table was released by its General Manager S. K. Budhalakoti here on Wednesday. It is effective from today (July 1).

Salient features of the new time table include introduction of 20 new trains. There are two Duronto (non-stop) trains including the Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Yeshwantpur (weekly), 15 express trains and three passenger trains including the New Delhi-Panipat Matribhoomi Ladies' Special which will run six days a week.

The frequency of six trains has been increased and two express trains including the New Delhi-Guwahati Rajdhani have been extended for greater connectivity to farther regions. In addition, service of some trains has been shifted to Anand Vihar terminal including the Anand Vihar Terminal-Kathgodam (tri-weekly) Express train. The time table also includes a change in the departure time of 38 trains and arrival time of 14 trains.

More terminals

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Budhalakoti said the Northern Railway has been undertaking several initiatives to enhance passengers' comfort and convenience. “Focused measures have been taken in the area of passenger grievances and in keeping with these efforts now passengers travelling on Northern Railway can send their complaints through SMS on 9717630982.”

He also said that the Northern Railway has plans to develop more terminals besides Anand Vihar to decongest the existing terminals in Delhi area. “It has been decided to shift operation of some trains to Anand Vihar Terminus of which three trains would be operational by mid-July,” he added.

The General Manager stated that with total originating earnings of Rs.10,075.7 crore, the Northern Railway had ended 2009-10 on a “buoyant note” registering a 13.65 per cent increase.

“The Northern Railway thus marks another eventful year in facilitating greater connectivity through new rail services, operating nearly 8,665 special trains and undertaking many other passenger-friendly initiatives,” he added.
