No change in Jagan's ‘Odarpu yatra' plan

Special Correspondent

Kadapa MP will resume tour from Srikakulam on July 8

HYDERABAD: A day after Congress MP from Kadapa Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy met AICC president Sonia Gandhi along with his mother and sister, his supporters are gearing up for resumption of the ‘Odarpu yatra' from July 8 from Srikakulam district.

The tour may last one week to ten days, according to sources in Mr. Jagan's camp while APCC general secretary Ambati Rambabu on Wednesday confirmed that there was no change in the July 8 tour of Mr. Jagan coinciding with his father's birth anniversary.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Rambabu said the Congress MP's meeting with Ms. Gandhi went off very well.

He expressed confidence that the Congress high command would permit him to resume the yatra as it was purely apolitical and meant only to call on the families of those who lost their near and dear after YSR's death.

Sources said Mr. Jagan told leaders who met him at his residence that he was satisfied with his interaction with the AICC chief.

“Mr. Jagan said Ms. Gandhi patiently listened to him about the yatra,” a senior Congress leader remarked.

Among those who met him were Anantapur MP Anantha Venkatarami Reddy, Congress MLAs -- G. Srikanth Reddy (Rayachoti), M. Kavitha (Mahabubabad), Kamalamma (Badvel) and PR legislator A. Maheswar Reddy.

According to sources, Mr. Jagan will leave for Pulivendula on July 5 and pay his respects at the grave of his father in Idupulapaya on July 6.

He will return to the city on July 7 and board a train to Visakhapatnam the same night.

He will launch his yatra from Srikakulam on July 8.
