Nikki upsets Neeraj

VIJAYAWADA: Eighth seed Nikki Poonacha defeated second seed Neeraj Elangovan 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to enter the semifinals of the boys section in the AITA super series U-16 tournament here on Wednesday. In the girls section, fifth seed Tahira Bhatti beat fourth seed Jasmine Kaur 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to make to the last four.

Quarterfinals: Boys: A.K. Parthasaradhi (AP) bt Akshay (TN) 6-3, 6-2; Md. Yunus (TN) bt Harshit Jain (AP) 6-3, 6-0; Jude Raymond (AP) bt Advitiya Patnaik (Ori) 7-5, 6-1; Niki Poonacha (TN) bt E. Neeraj (TN) 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Girls: Sai Samhitha (TN) bt Nayanika Reddy (AP) 6-4, 6-1; Vaishnavi Reddy (AP) bt Bharat Kavya (TN) 6-3, 6-0; Tahira Bhatti (Dli) bt Jasmine Kaur (Dli) 6-4, 2-6, 6-4; S. Spurthi (TN) bt Vanshika Sawhney (Chd) 6-2, 6-0.

Chess tourney

President's XI posts win

ACA President's XI defeated Secretary's XI by two wickets in the selection tournament for Andhra senior women team at ACA Academy at Guntur on Wednesday. The selected team will take part in a South Zone inter-State one-day tournament at Bangalore from July 10.

The scores: Secretary's XI 108 in 28.4 overs (V. Sneha Deepthi 44, P. Nagamani four for five) lost to President's XI 109 for eight in 41.3 overs (Shilpa Chandra four for 13) .

Condoled

Members of Andhra Cricket Association on Wednesday condoled the death of Raja of Venkatagiri, V.V.S.R.G.K. Yachendra, who passed away on June 29 at Hyderabad. He was the former Andhra Ranji captain and vice-president of ACA.
