Mehdi sizzles

HYDERABAD: Fine bowling by Mehdi Hassan (six for 72) helped Esnconse record a four-wicket win over Deccan Chronicle in the A-Division (three-day) league cricket championship here on Wednesday.

In another match, Ranji star Ambati Rayudu scored a breezy 103 not out (12 x 4, 5 x 6) for R. Dayanand XI against SCRSA.

Centuries by Penta Rao Balla (135) and Vishnu Tiwari (109) for AOC, Ahmed Quadri (100 not out) for State Bank of Hyderabad were the highlights of the other matches.

The scores: A-Division (three-day) league:

Deccan Chronicle 194 & 247 (Parth Jhala 97 not out, Mehdi Hassan six for 72) lost to Ensconse 247 & 195 for six (Ranvir Banerjee 73, Ibrahim Khaleel 71 not out).

Andhra Bank 223 vs MP Colts 257 for five (Benjamin Thomas 63, G. H. Vihari 91, Md. Shakeer 59, Laxman Kishore three for 42).

Hyd Bottling 118 vs AOC 499 for five (Penta Rao Balla 135, Sumit Singh 91, Vishnu Tiwari 109, Sarabjeet Singh 74 batting, Sandeep Singh 30).

SBH 532 for eight (Ahmed Quadri 100 not out, Srihari 51) vs Evergreen 139 for eight (Prithvi Reddy 36 batting, Afred Absolem five for 46).

BDL 313 (B. Sandeep 162 not out, Sabarish 38, M. P. Arjun four for 80) vs India Cements 130 for four (Sandilya 60, D. Rushiraj 44, Shiv Shanker three for 36).

SCRSA 266 vs R. Dayanand 339 for three (P. Shashank Nag 93, Kranthi 50, Shaik Shakeer 53, A. T. Rayudu 103 not out, Shivam 33 not out).

Kirti moves up

Gunuganti Sruta Kirti of Andhra Pradesh moved into the semifinals of the under-14 and the under-16 categories in the AITA Championship Series tennis tournament in Guwahati today, according to information received here.

The Hyderabad girl defeated Nikita Deshmukh of Gujarat 6-2, 6-2 in the under-16 category and then got the better of Tanisha Baruah (Assam) 6-0, 6-1 in the under-14 section.

In both the semifinals, she will be facing Kumaran Sendil Deepika of Tamil Nadu.
