NEW DELHI: Six countries will take part in the seventh Asian youth netball championship to be held at the Thyagaraj Stadium here from July 3 to 10. Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Malaysia and India will participate in the championship, which will be a test event for the Commonwealth Games. President of the Netball Federation of India Gurbir Singh said the event, meant for under-21 girls, would be an opportunity to popularise the sport in the country. A core group of 22 players are training for the Commonwealth Games. Led by Prachi Tehlan, a 12-member Indian team has been selected for the test event. Host India, coached by Mary Mercia Lourdes from Sri Lanka, will face Thailand in its first match. — Sports Reporter
