Permission to operate four buses on the route Plea for low-floor bus service to Karipur airport Kozhikode: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will launch the circular service of its two new buses from the Kozhikode railway station premises, linking important destinations of the city, on Saturday. The services, operated under the title ‘Malabar Circular', will cover Mananchira, West Nadakkavu, East Nadakkavu, Eranhipalam, Civil Station, Malapparamba, Thondayad, Medical College, Chevayur, Kottuli, Mofussil bus station, Mavoor Road, Palayam junction, MCC Bank and reach the starting point via Annie Hall Road. The first circular service will begin from the railway station premises at 8 a.m. and the second at 8.30 a.m. District Collector P.B. Salim told press persons here on Friday that the services were sanctioned by the KSRTC following a special proposal submitted by the district administration on September 2009. “Permission has already been granted to operate four buses on the route and the remaining services will begin immediately after getting two more new buses for the district,” the Collector said. According to Dr. Salim, the already sanctioned services would reduce the hardships faced by commuters, especially those who work in various government and private sector establishments located on the route. “The possibility of issuing season tickets will also be considered in the offing to popularise the services,” the Collector said. Dr. Salim said the travel fare in circular service buses would be equal to that of the ordinary buses, adding that the services would be available for the commuters in every 30 minutes from the railway station. According to the existing time schedule, the last circular service from the railway station premises would start at 7.40 p.m. The buses would halt at Pavangad. “The district administration has also submitted a proposal to the KSRTC to start low-floor bus services to the Karipur International Airport,” the Collector said. “The final approval in this regard is expected to come shortly,” he added.
