Two arrested on chain-snatching charges

Staff Reporter

KOLLAM: A police team, led by Kollam Deputy Superintendent of Police B. Krishna Kumar, nabbed two youths allegedly involved in a series of chain-snatching incidents in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts.

The identities of the arrested were given as Shanavas, 24, and Shabir, 33.

Sub-Inspectors G. Gopakumar and Faroze who made the arrest said the duo snatched the chains riding on motorcycles stolen by them.

They said the two confessed to their involvement in at least 12 chain-snatching cases in and around Kollam city alone. Of those, eight cases are pending in the Kollam East Police Station.

Shanu had undergone a jail term earlier for chain-snatching.

The police have received information that the two used to peddle narcotic drugs in the city. They will be produced before a magistrate court here on Saturday.
