Fake visas racket smashed

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Five persons of Bangladeshi origin have been arrested for allegedly running a fake visas racket facilitating the entry of their clients to the US through Latin American countries.

The Ecuadorian Embassy recently lodged a complaint with the South Delhi Police saying that an organised gang was involved in the illegal practice of providing fake visas of the country. Taking up investigation, the police team arrested Mohammad Omar Farooq and Mafezul Islam while the two were loitering around the embassy. Two passports with fake Ecuadorian visas were allegedly seized.

On June 28, the police arrested Saifual Islam, Ali-ur-Rehman and Alam Miyan alias Raju in Gandhi Nagar. A bulk of incriminating material including passports with fake visas, blank visa slips and five visa receipts of the Ecuadorian Embassy were allegedly seized. It was also found during investigation that the accused had been staying in India without a valid Indian visa.

During interrogation, the accused purportedly told the police that they used to facilitate the entry of their clients to the US through Latin American countries and charged Rs.20-25 lakh per client. The clients were sent to Latin American countries using forged visas and Rs.2.5 lakh was charged. The gang then allegedly arranged for the entry of their clients to the US through porous US-Mexico border with help from their local contacts. The remaining amount was accepted once the client had reached the US.
