Handloom exhibition begins

On display: People taking a look at the handloom products at the Handloom Saris and Clothes Exhibition, which began at the Poompuhar showroom in Erode on Friday.

ERODE: Eye catching handloom textiles procured from various parts of the country, worth over Rs. 8 lakh, have been displayed at the special Handloom Saris and Clothes Exhibition, which commenced at the Poompuhar showroom in the town on Friday.

The exhibition, organised by the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited, has a variety of saris including the famous Madurai sungadi saris, Andhra cotton saris, Pochampalli cotton, Kerala cotton, Bengal silk cotton, Jaipur cotton and Kacheepuram cotton saris.

Showroom Manager K. Arumugam said that people could buy a variety of saris at prices ranging from Rs. 160 to Rs. 2,000.

Apart from saris, silk kurtas from Gujarat, Churidhar sets from Jaipur, cotton ghagra cholis and skirts for children are also displayed at the exhibition. Hand-made bed spreads, pillow covers, sofa covers, carpets, embroidery table cloth and a variety of other cloths have also found a place in the expo.

Mr. Arumugam said that a sales target of Rs. 2 lakh had been fixed for this year's exhibition.

The exhibition, which was inaugurated by District Treasury Officer K. Amirtha Sagaran, will conclude on July 24.

The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. To 8 p.m. The showroom offers a discount from 10 per cent for all handloom products purchased in the exhibition.
