Honour for centenarian tree

Thiruvananthapuram: A benign, silent presence, she has presided over the sprawling school grounds for a century. Her green canopy has provided a cool shade to generations of students.

On Friday, the majestic 100-year-old teak tree on the premises of SMV Government Model Higher Secondary School was honoured with the title of ‘Vriksha Sree.'

The title was conferred on the tree by Forest Minister Benoy Viswom who put up a board on it.

The Minister also inaugurated a scheme to set up farm and environment clubs in schools.
