BHUBANESWAR: Two young and acclaimed artistes of Orissa – Odissi dancer Lingaraj Pradhan and Odissi singer Nazia Sayeed - have made the State proud by bagging the just announced prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Prativa Puraskar for 2009. The awards were instituted in 2006 by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi – India's national academy for performing arts - in memory of the legendary sehnai maestro. Considered as national awards for the young artistes, the awards are being presented to acclaimed artistes below the age of 35. Each award carries a certificate, a memento and cash prize of Rs.25,000. Considered as the best among the young male Odissi dancers today, Lingaraj Pradhan is the lead dancer and teacher at Bhubaneswar-based internationally acclaimed Rudrakashya Odissi Foundation of Guru Bichitrananda Swain.
