MLA stages dharna

Staff Reporter

Nagercoil: Thiruvattar MLA Leema Rose of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a ‘dharna' at Thiruvattar depot of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Madurai) division on Friday to protest against what she called an indirect hike in bus fares..

She said that TNSTC operated ordinary buses in various parts of Kanyakumari district. A few buses have been converted into limited stops service and time saving service by increasing the fares.

This has affected people who used to travel by these buses. The TNSTC was also collecting minimum charge of Rs. 5 from them.

The authorities, she said, also reduced the frequency from 4 trips to 2 between Kulasekaram and Thengapattinam. TNSTC officials rushed to the spot and held discussions with the agitating MLA and others and assured them of suitable action.
