GUWAHATI: Six political parties in Assam on Sunday called for the building up of a united struggle by the Left, democratic and secular forces in the State to oust the Congress and its allies from power and defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies in the 2011 Assembly polls. The six parties — the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI, CPI (Marxist-Leninist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Forward Bloc, and the Janata Dal (Secular) — also extended full support to Monday's Bharat bandh called by the Left and other Opposition parties against the fuel price hike. The parties also took out a procession seeking public support for the strike. The appeal to strengthen the unity of the Left, democratic and secular forces was issued from the platform of a day-long convention jointly organised by the six parties here. The convention adopted a 14-point charter of demands that included, among others, the immediate rollback of the fuel price hike and the decision to deregulate the price of petrol.
