Udhagamandalam: A camping centre called Neelakurinji developed by the Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts and Guides was inaugurated by the General Manager, Southern Railway Deepak Krishan at Ketti near here on Saturday. A Southern Railway press note issued here on Monday stated that the facility with meeting hall, dining hall, trainers block, log cabin houses, documentation centre etc can accommodate 200 campers. It also has nine tent bases. The natural landscape, the surrounding greenery, and wall and rock paintings add to the beauty of the campsite. A number of boards giving details about Ketti, Neelakurinji flower, Nilgiris, Eucalyptus trees and Nilgiri Mountain Railway, have been put up. An old Nilgiri Mountain Railway coach placed in the campsite adds to the heritage value of camping centre. A special cover was released by Rajarajan, the Post Master General, Western Region. The first copy was received by Mr. Krishan. A song composed on the Camping Centre was released by V. Carmelus, Chief Mechanical Engineer and State Chief Commissioner. Cultural programmes presented by scouts and guides marked the occasion. The Divisional Manager, Southern Railway P.N. Ram also participated. Earlier, the State Commissioner (Guides) Eausebious Carmelus welcomed the gathering. S.Ram Prakash proposed a vote of thanks.
