HYDERABAD: Congress MLA from Sangareddy T. Jayaprakash Reddy has clarified to the Election Commission that he did not intend to incite violence or personally attack the TRS leaders or provoke anybody with his statements. Replying to the show cause notice served on him by the EC, Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy said his comments were aimed at giving moral support to the Congress cadre and were part of efforts to instil confidence in them that they need not fear the pressure tactics of the TRS leaders. His comments were not aimed at instigating any region, religion, caste or classes of people and the statement had not caused any violent incidents. ‘Internal affair of party' The remarks were made at a meeting of Congress delegates at a time when the election process did not commence and the parties did not announce their candidates. “It was strictly an internal affair of the party and the comments were neither provocative nor addressed to the general public,” he said. He said the Congress leaders and workers were under threat due to the political unrest and disturbance caused by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti headed by K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his family members. There were several incidents of violence in Hyderabad and other places and the Congress MLAs and ex-MLAs were “brutally attacked.”
