HYDERABAD: Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has announced his resolve to resume the ‘Odarpu yatra' from Srikakulam district on July 8, coinciding with the birth anniversary of his father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. In an open letter to the people on Monday, Mr. Jagan said he would commence his yatra from Ichapuram, the culmination point of YSR's 1,600-km padayatra before the 2004 elections. The letter comes amid continuing suspense over the Congress leadership's response to his request to resume the yatra. Mr. Jagan asserted that he had waited patiently to resume the yatra to “avoid scope for misunderstanding” and the letter was necessitated in view of the confusion prevailing over his yatra and there was no better day to resume it than the birthday of his father. The visit to Srikakulam would be followed by East Godavari for five to six days, he said and advised his supporters against indulging in any ‘extravaganza' during his visit. He lamented that though he had announced the intention to launch the ‘yatra' to console families of those who died due to shock in the aftermath of his father's tragic death, it was delayed inordinately due to objections from some quarters that saw the programme in “a political magnifying glass”. Recalling his meeting with Ms. Gandhi along with family members, he said she “appeared not inclined towards continuance of the yatra”.
