We'll intervene if prices become volatile: Deora
Sujay Mehdudia
NEW DELHI: The government would always intervene to protect consumer interests in case of volatility in crude prices in international markets, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora said.
Asserting that it was wrong to say the recent deregulation had left people at the mercy of oil marketing companies, he said the most “useful outcome” of Monday's nationwide protest by the Opposition was “the coming together” of the Left parties and the BJP. “The bandh has only caused inconvenience and harassment to the common man.”
The deregulation process was initiated by the United Front government in 1996-97 and implemented by the Vajpayee-led NDA government, he said.
