Bidar
Bidar: As many as 1,073 cases of gastroenteritis have been detected in Bidar district since January. Of these, 409 cases have been detected since the monsoon, Health Department officials said here on Tuesday. Speaking at a meeting on the control of epidemics, District Surveillance Officer A.C. Lalithamma said doctors had detected one case of cholera, seven cases of jaundice and 54 cases of typhoid. Special teams of doctors were being sent to villages affected by epidemics, she said. She said the department was issuing instructions to the general public to prevent the spread of epidemics in the district. “The possibility of the spread of epidemics is high during the monsoon. People can prevent them by controlling mosquitoes and maintaining hygiene,” she said. Mosquitoes can be easily controlled by ensuring that water does not stagnate around houses and water tanks and pots are covered. “In some villages, water supply pipes have developed cracks and sewage water has got mixed with drinking water. To prevent this, farmers should regularly check and maintain water supply pipes in their houses,” she said.
