Scheduled Caste status sought for community

GULBARGA: Members of the Hadapad Samaja Hita Rakshana Vedike on Tuesday demanded that the State Government undo the injustice caused to the community as a whole by releasing funds for its welfare.

President of the vedike Vijaykumar Hadapad, who led a procession of community members to the Deputy Commissioner's office from the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Chowk, said the members of the Savita Samaj, an association of Hadapad people, were enjoying all benefits such as funds released by the Government, while nothing was being done for the common good. The Government should ensure that all community welfare measures reached deserving people.

He said the State Government should release Rs. 3 crore for the development of the Hadapad Appanna Devara Mahamath at Tangadagi village, as well as Rs. 2 crore for the establishment of a research chair on Hadapad Appanna and Ningamma in Gulbarga University.

Board sought

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, the protesters demanded the constitution of a separate development board for the community. They also demanded that the Hadapad community, which was socially and economically backward, be classified as a Scheduled Caste.
