Kozhikode: Nearly 80 vehicles, including cars and motorbikes, which were seized by police stations in the city will be auctioned at the Chathamangalam yard, 20 km from here, on Wednesday. Most of these vehicles have been lying idle for several months on the yard without thier owners claiming them back. Now, a recently constituted committee with the Commissioner of Police as chairman and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Administration) as convener has decided to auction off these vehicles following an order from the High Court of Kerala. The police stations had conducted an auction in April and put up for sale around 40 vehicles, which together fetched a revenue of Rs.1.5 lakh. Official sources said the vehicles that would be auctioned might have been abandoned by owners or involved in both accident cases as well as civil disputes. Earlier, an option was given to the owners of the vehicles to take them back. This option would again be offered to the owners before the auction begins.
