Contact programme of diploma course takes off

Special Correspondent

MYSORE: A three-month contact programme for students of the International Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (IGDC) began at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) here on Monday.

The programme was inaugurated by K. Dorasami, Principal, RIE Mysore. In his inaugural address, Prof. Dorasami defined a counsellor as a professional with thorough knowledge and a set of skills and beliefs, to solve the problems of his clientele. He called upon counsellors to become reflective practitioners, and adopt a problem-based approach. “Counsellors need to know how to integrate theory and practice,” he said, highlighting the need for counsellors in schools, colleges, hospitals and industries.
