CHENNAI: Jolly Rovers is scheduled to begin its defence of the Raja of Palayampatti Shield against Alwarpet as another season of the TNCA first-division cricket league commences here on Wednesday. Rovers will be without wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, opener S. Vidyut, middle-order batsman V. Maaruthi Raghav, and left-arm seamer R. Suthesh, all of whom have moved. Dinesh Karthik and V. Maaruthi Raghav have transferred to Vijay while Vidyut and Suthesh have shifted to Young Stars. To compensate for the departures of Karthik and Raghav, Rovers has drafted K.H. Gopinath from India Pistons and C. Hemant Kumar from Aruna. Pistons and Aruna suffered other losses as well, the former losing R. Srinivasan to Alwarpet and the latter losing S. Anirudha to Globe Trotters. Vijay, which will play promoted side Falcon in its opener, has strengthened its squad. In addition to Karthik and Raghav, the side has signed seamer V. Yomahesh from Globe Trotters and moved veteran batsman S. Sharath and promising spinner R. Aushik Srinivas from UFCC (T. Nagar), which was relegated. Grand Slam, last season's runner-up, welcomes back seamer P. Amarnath and middle-order batsman S. Suresh Kumar, both of whom will benefit from the mentorship of captain J. Madanagopal and Hemang Badani. But the side has lost fast-bowling prospect Sunil Sam to Globe Trotters. Other transfers include S. Ramesh (Young Stars to IOB), Rahil Shah (Parry's to Falcon), and N. Einstein (UFCC to Rovers).
