Event:Governor H.R. Bhardwaj unveiling the foundation stone for the centenary celebrations of the United Theological College in Bangalore on Thursday. Bangalore: There is a sense of regret in the State about the series of attacks on churches and a commitment not to allow such incidents to be repeated, said Governor H.R. Bhardwaj. Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the United Theological College here on Thursday, he said he was disturbed by these incidents in a State known for religious tolerance. “People at the helm should take corrective actions immediately when such incidents occur,” he said, and reiterated his commitment to the secular cause. Mr. Bhardwaj underscored that freedom of religion is fundamental to the Indian Constitution and recalled the contribution of Christians to the nation-building process during the freedom struggle and in introducing Indian philosophy to the west. Church heads from various denominations participated in the centenary celebrations.
