Liquor contractors hope to rake in profits

Staff Reporter

ADILABAD: Liquor shop owners in the three Assembly constituencies where bypolls will be held shortly now look forward to an intense phase of electioneering that can rake in better profits for them.

The prospects under normal circumstances had seemed very bleak given the unusually high rentals for individual vends they will have to pay all along the contract period of two years.

Fierce competition in the field had seen bidders quoting very high for rentals for almost all the 207 liquor shops in the district.

Bids

The Prohibition and Excise Department netted Rs. 126 crore through auction of these vends that was 109 per cent higher than the basic Rs. 59 crore quoted by the department.

As many as seven shops were auctioned for a high of Rs. 1 crore and Rs. 2 crore while one vend was given away for a rental of Rs. 2.22 crore.
