GULBARGA: Abdul Rehman, a terrorist with links to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a fast track court here on Wednesday.
The Goa resident was arrested by the Gulbarga police on March 30, 2006, when he was alighting from the Mumbai-bound Chennai Mail.
Lethal weapons, including an AK 47 rifle, a grenade, knives, audio and video CDs containing inflammatory content and terror literature were seized from him.
Judge S.Y. Vasantkumar convicted him of waging war against India, collecting arms with the intention of waging war against India and sedition under Sections 121, 122 and 124 (A) of the Indian Penal Code, the Arms and Ammunition Act and the Explosives Act. He also imposed a fine of Rs. 1.75 lakh, entailing two more years in prison if Rehman did not pay.
Special Government Prosecutor Arun S. Patil said Rehman had planned to strike in a big way in Gulbarga city.
