COIMBATORE: Representatives of teachers' associations have appealed to the Census Commissioner to deploy more people for carrying out census operations and extend time till July 31. In a release they have said that each teacher who had been deputed for enumeration was, with much difficulty, covering between 400 and 500 houses a day, well above the 150 houses-a-day target given to them during training. It was impossible for the teachers to perform the work, especially in densely populated areas like Avinashi where a large number of migrant labourers resided. To reduce their burden more people needed to be deployed. Each enumerator had been given only 120 forms and they had been exhausted, the representatives said and asked for more forms. They also asked for extension of time till the end of July. Pointing out poor execution of preliminary work like numbering houses and allocating areas to enumerators, especially in panchayat and town panchayat areas, the representatives had said that people on the ground were facing lot of challenges.
