Staff Correspondent

Authorities given a 10-day deadline to meet the demand

Hubli: The Karnataka State Broad Gauge Railway Agitation Committee of Bagalkot has given a 10-day deadline to authorities concerned to take steps to improve rail services in the Gadag-Bagalkot-Bijapur section.

President of the committee Kutubuddin Kaji told presspersons here on Friday that if the railway authorities failed to take steps to extend the Hampi Express (6591/6592) to Bagalkot within 10 days, the committee members along with seers of several maths and representatives of various organisations will launch an indefinite agitation in front of the Bagalkot railway station.

Mr. Kaji said that despite submitting several memorandums, the railway authorities had failed to initiate measures to fulfil the long-standing demands even after two years after the completion of gauge conversion of the section.

He said the rail authorities had even revised the timings of passenger train nos. 355, 342 and 353 on the Bijapur-Gadag- Dharwad section, which had caused hardship to the rail passengers. The committee urged the authorities to cancel the revised timetable and revert to the earlier one, he added.

Office-bearers of the committee Vijay Mulagund, Navinkumar Madivalar, Basavanneyya Hiremath and Nissar Ahmed Kaji said even after two years after the gauge conversion work the authorities had failed to meet the demands of the train passengers.
