Ishqiya to go international again

Madhur Tankha

To be screened at Indian Film Festival of London-2010

On the way to glory: Actors Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi in a scene from ‘Ishqiya'.

NEW DELHI: After receiving critical acclaim at home, Ishqiya is all set to make waves internationally. It will be screened at the inaugural edition of the Indian Film Festival of London-2010 at London's historic Riverside Studios on August 25.

The film was also screened at the Munich International Film Festival that ended earlier this month.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film's unique selling point is undoubtedly the brilliant performance by veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah. As 51-year-old Khalujan, Shah has portrayed a character who is basically a romantic at heart with a sharp mind and body. Though he has lived with men with shades of grey, Khalujan is an emotional person with a tender side to him.

Actors Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan have also exhibited their unique talent to keep film buffs hooked on to their seats.

Multi-talented film personality Gulzar has once again lived up to his reputation of being one of the country's finest lyricists by penning down riveting songs.

The riveting storyline and catchy songs like “ Ibn-e-Batuta ta ta, Bagal Mein Joota ta ta..…” have played a significant role in ensuring that the film got a favourable response at the box office across the country. That it won loads of appreciation from critics only goes to prove that a movie with intelligent crisp script would surely be a winner.

‘Loved by audience'

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Shemaroo Entertainment Director Hiren Gada said: “I feel proud that Ishqiya is going to be screened at IFFL. It seems that the film has made place in the heart of film lovers worldwide. I hope that people's love with our film continues in days to come.”

IFFL-2010 is the first major film festival to be held in London along with popular and off-beat cinema of Bollywood and regional India. It seeks to introduce audiences to the lesser-known cinematic traditions of the region, showcasing an array of powerful and dazzling productions from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Additionally, the IFFL intends to build and strengthen cultural and commercial bridges between the film industries of Britain and India, encouraging exchange of ideas and facilitating meetings between film professionals and investors.

The festival will conclude on August 29.
