CHENNAI: The State Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme has issued an order for implementation of reservation in direct appointment of staff to be employed in centres of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) and Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Noon Meal Programme. This follows a Madras High Court directive in April to the State government to provide for reservation. The court had restrained the government from filling the posts without due representation to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes till the rules of reservation were framed. The government order, issued on Tuesday, stated that the reservation system would be followed in the direct appointment of anganwadi workers, mini-anganwadi workers and anganwadi assistants in the centres of the ICDS and cooks and assistants in the centres of the Noon Meal Programme. In the appointment of noon-meal organiser, the principle of reservation would continue to be followed. For all the posts, the district concerned would be taken as the unit. For following communal rotation, orders issued by the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department should be adhered to.
