Conclave asks Ministers to seek expert advice

Special Correspondent

Decision taken to have meeting of party district committees in districts on every second Saturday

Ministers told take up innovative welfare schemes

BANGALORE: To tone up the administration and also improve coordination between the party and the government ahead of the elections to the taluk and zilla panchayats, a conclave of the Bharatiya Janata Party Ministers and party top leaders chaired by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Friday came out with a slew of measures, including asking each Minister to appoint a panel of experts to guide them.

The three-hour conclave decided to have a mandatory meeting of the party district committees in each district on every second Saturday of the month commencing from July 10 in which all the party elected representatives and district in-charge Ministers concerned would participate. Such district meetings, which are an effort to bridge the gap between the party and the government at the district level, would try to get feedback regarding the implementation of various welfare schemes taken up by the Government.

No individual review

Though the meeting was tipped to be a ministerial review exercise, no individual review of Ministers was conducted. Instead, each Minister made a brief presentation on the development programmes taken up by their departments and their progress, at the meeting. All Ministers were allowed to make suggestions regarding the functioning of their colleagues' departments besides the exchange of best practices.

Briefing presspersons after the meeting, party State unit president K.S. Eshwarappa said the conclave had told the Ministers to utilise the services of experts. Either they could have their own panel of experts or seek the party's help in getting experts.

He said the meeting had instructed the Ministers to take up innovative welfare schemes and prepare a timetable for their implementation. The Ministers were told to implement such an agenda with a twin-approach of mandatorily working from their offices at Vidhana Soudha and Vikasa Soudha for a minimum of two days a week and spending another day in the week in their respective districts with voters and party workers to monitor the implementation of the scheme.

He said such conclaves of Ministers, which is being held as part of the session on good governance hosted by party's president Nitin Gadkari in Mumbai recently, would be held regularly.

Interestingly three Ministers — G. Janardhan Reddy, B. Sriramulu and Anand Asnotikar — did not attend the conclave. Mr. Eshwarappa said they had taken his permission.
