Engineering students stage protest
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: Students of Sri Sai Ram College of Engineering staged a demonstration in Tambaram on Friday seeking action against a non-teaching staff for assaulting two second year students who were placed under suspension.
The protest lasted for three hours and students dispersed only after an assurance that the non-teaching staff would be pulled up and that the two suspended students would be revoked.
Trouble began when two second year students, Bharat and Ashwat, allegedly beat up Rahul, studying in the same year, while travelling in the college bus to the private institution, located a few km away from Tambaram. When authorities came to know about the incident that took place recently, they conducted an enquiry. Balu, a non-teaching staff, students said, assaulted Bharat and Ashwat, who were suspended for 15 days.
One of them had to be taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
