ARIYALUR: In an attempt to popularise the 'Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme for Life-saving Treatments', the district administration has launched a special awareness campaign.

Commencing July, the campaign will last for three months in various parts. Special health camps will be organised in rural pockets where patients will be screened and recommended for treatment. Inaugurating the special camp at Vilandhai village near Andimadam on Saturday, District Collector T. Abraham attributed the lack of awareness of preventive health care measures to the under-utilisation of the scheme.

Only 1,472 patients had been referred to treatment at an expenditure of Rs.3.75 crore, he said, explaining the need for launching the campaign.

Mr.Abraham said that the state government had approved three private hospitals in the district for treatment. This apart, patients can undergo treatment at any of the private hospitals empanelled under the scheme.
