Argentina enters semifinals

MOSCOW: David Nalbandian led Argentina into a Davis Cup semifinal against France after a 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Mikhail Youzhny in the deciding rubber of the quarterfinal tie against Russia on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday, World No.6 Nikolay Davydenko battled back from a set down to defeat Eduardo Schwank 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 to keep host Russia in the fight, levelling the tie at 2-2.

Meanwhile, France completed a 5-0 whitewash over visiting Spain at Clermont-Ferrand.

The results: In Moscow: Russia 2 lost to Argentina 3 [Mikhail Youzhny lost to David Nalbandian 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3; Nikolay Davydenko bt Eduardo Schwank 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 6-4].

In Clermont-Ferrand: France 5 bt Spain 0 [Gilles Simon bt Nicolas Almagro 7-6(4), 7-6(7); Julien Benneteau bt Feliciano Lopez 7-6(3), 6-4].

In Split: Croatia 1 lost to Serbia 4 [Antonio Veic lost to Janko Tipsarevic 6-2, 7-6(5); Marin Cilic lost to Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-2].

In Coquimbo: Chile 0 trails Czech Republic 3 [Jorge Aguilar & Nicolas Massu lost to Lukas Dlouhy & Jan Hajek 7-6(3), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3] . — Agencies
