Bangalore: A former Assistant Director of Doordarshan Kendra in Chennai, engrossed in music on his iPod during his morning walk, was run over by a train at 6.50 a.m. near the Gokul Railway Level Crossing at Mathikere here on Monday. The Yeshwanthpur railway police, quoting eyewitnesses, said K. Vyasarajan (69), a resident of MSR Road, was carelessly crossing railway tracks listening to the music. He was also wearing a balaclava which prevented his hearing the fast-approaching Kannur-Bangalore Express. The train hit him and he died on the spot, the Yeshwanthpur Railway Police said. Mr. Vyasarajan, a Chennai native, was staying with his son Prasanna, a software engineer, after his retirement. He used to go to J.P. Park near Mathikere for his morning walk every day. Earlier, he used to carry a pocket radio with him but switched over to an iPod a few months back, the police said, quoting relatives. Yeshwanthpur Station Master Mandira Choudhary filed a case of unnatural death under Criminal Procedure 1973.
