Eight players share the lead

MANGALORE: Eight players share the lead at the end of the fourth round of the Mangalore FIDE-rated open chess tournament after some seeded players lost the games against lesser-known opponents on Monday.

Meghan Gupte of Maharastra beat IM B.T. Muralikrishnan of Southern Railway in 45 moves while O.T. Anilkumar of Kerala outplayed IM G.B. Prakash of Indian Bank in 58 moves.

On the top board, Karnataka's best bet IM Thejkumar of South Western Railway defeated Tamil Nadu State Champion Kunal in 56 moves. IM MR Venkatesh defeated C.R.G. Krishna of Andhra Pradesh in 39 moves.

Top seed Grandmaster R.R. Laxman outplayed Rakesh Kulkarni of Maharastra while local player Sriram Sarja settled for a draw against Navin Kanna of Tamil Nadu.
