Telugu Desam cries foul over lease of masjid land

ONGOLE: Alleging a Rs 3-crore scam in leasing of lands belonging to the Jamia Masjid (Bedda Masjid) by Mutawalli(caretaker) Rahmatullah allegedly in collusion with Wakf Board inspector Hyder Basha, the opposition Telugu Desam Party minority wing on Wednesday demanded taking back of the leased lands and suspension of the duo.

Addressing a press conference here, TDP minorities wing Prakasam district president Shaikh Moulali and general secretary Mohammad Saheb claimed that 8.25 acres of agriculture land belonging to the masjid had been turned into plots and given on a lease for 11 months and 15 days by the duo after collecting Rs 1 lakh each from over 300 persons.

“If State Mines Minister B Srinivas Reddy is really committed to protecting the interests of Muslim minorities, he should ensure that revenue authorities took action immediately against the erring persons and protected the Wakf property,'' they said.

A delegation of TDP leaders including its district executive member Hanif Khan earlier inspected the masjid lands.
