Police firing decried
Correspondent
Vizianagaram: CPI (ML-New Democracy) leader Pola Eswara Rao on Wednesday condemned the police firing on demonstrators at Sompeta, where they obstructed Nagarjuna Construction Company from laying the foundation stone for a thermal power unit this morning.
At a press conference here, he said that three people were reportedly killed and 10 others were injured in the firing.
He criticised the government for not taking majority opinion into consideration.
Stating that the living conditions of people in 25 villages surrounding the plant area would be severely affected, he demanded payment of an ex gratia of Rs.10 lakhs each to kin of firing victims and a judicial probe into the firing incident.
