Medical reps to go on strike from August 17

MAHABUBNAGAR: Demanding that their long pending problems be solved members of Andhra Pradesh Medical and Sales Representatives Union are planning to go on a two-day strike from August 17. A strike notice to this effect was submitted to Collector M. Purushotham Reddy here on Wednesday.

The union is seeking finalisation of 254 drugs in essential drugs list, removal of excise duty from all essential medicines, reverting to cost based excise duty calculation from MRP and enforcing drug industry to make essential drugs available to people, revival of public sector drug companies and strengthening of public sector vaccine producing units.

They also wanted the government to take effective steps to check black-marketing of medicines, to stop violation of drug laws and illegal practices by the drug companies, to check proliferation of fake drugs in the markets and to incorporate statutory working rules for sales promotion employees under SPE Act and others.
