Students urged to study in Kannada-medium

Staff Correspondent

‘Those studying in Kannada-medium institutions need not be afraid of not getting job'

‘KDA has come up with a programme to provide all UPSC and KPSC subjects in Kannada'

BELLARY: Member of the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Mallika Ghanti exhorted students to nurture and develop Kannada by pursuing their education in Kannada-medium institutions.

She expressed concern that Kannada was not getting its due in Karnataka, owing to globalisation and love for English.

“Those studying in Kannada-medium institutions need not be afraid of being deprived of job opportunities. The KDA has come up with a programme to provide all UPSC and KPSC subjects in Kannada for the benefit of students appearing for the civil services examinations,” she said. “There will be a spurt in employment opportunities when the Chief Minister, on being requested by KDA chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru, brings in modifications to the Sarojini Mahishi Committee report. This will ensure that all those who have studied in Kannada, will be employed in class II, III and IV jobs,” she added.

Ms. Ghanti was addressing the students of Municipal Junior College here on Wednesday, at a function organised by the KDA.

She also emphasized that public could also play an important role in this regard by drawing the attention of the departments concerned over the disrespect towards Kannada. Ms. Ghanti said the KDA would extend financial assistance of up to Rs. 10 lakh for institutions that would construct a “Kannada bhavan” on their campus.
