The week-long festival attracts people from all over State

The event will take place in Nagamangala, which is known for its rich cultural heritage

MYSORE: Nagamangala town in Mandya district makes headlines mostly for political reasons despite having a rich cultural heritage. The town, which is known for its metal crafts and ancient temples, is holding the week-long Nagaranga Theatre Festival being conducted by the Kannada Sangha Ranga Ghataka (KSRG) for the past four years.

Curtains will go up for the fifth edition of Nagaranga Theatre Festival on Sunday at Padmashree Dr. Chindodi Leela auditorium. Besides local people, the theatre festival is attracting theatre enthusiasts from various parts of the State. Over 4,000 theatre enthusiasts witnessed a series of plays staged here during the last festival.

KSRG was founded 25 years ago by a few students from different universities. Their exposure to theatre helped them take it to their native place.

KSRG has been organising seminars, discussions and interactive programmes on theatre. Besides inviting troupes, they also started producing modern plays on their own.

Theatre and cine director T.N. Seetharam and Rangayana director will be the chief guests, while sangha president T.L. Raghavendra will preside. A painting exhibition of K.B. Kulkarni will be an added attraction.

‘Jugari Cross', a play based on the story of Purnachandra Tejaswi and directed by Nataraja Honnavalli; ‘Yahoodi Hudugi', based on Itagi Eranna and directed by KSDL Chandru; ‘Ravi Nadiya Dandeyali' directed by Kanthesh Kadaramandalagi; ‘Gandhi Banda', a play based on a novel by H. Nagaveni and directed by Champashetty; ‘Aa Ooru, Ee Ooru', a play by Jadabharata and directed by Hulugappa Kattimani; ‘Mastakabhisheka Rehearsal', a play by H.S. Shivaprakash and directed by Suresh Anagalli; and ‘Krishne Gowdara Ane', a play based on the story of Tejaswi directed R. Nagesh will be staged during the seven days.
