Kozhikode: An orientation camp for Haj volunteers from south Indian States, including Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep, will be held in Tamil Nadu this time. Kerala State Haj Committee chairman P.T.A. Rahim, MLA, told The Hindu that the venue of the two-day camp beginning July 27 would be finalised shortly. A 20-member team, including the 14 selected Haj volunteers from the State, would participate in the camp. The participants would be briefed about a whole lot of things, including the Saudi government laws pertaining to Haj, health precautions to be taken during the trip, etiquettes to be maintained at the meeting place and other basics to be kept in mind while observing the pilgrimage. Members of the State squad participating in the camp would later lead district-level Haj classes organised by the committee in their respective States. “The information and tips received by the volunteers during the camp will be passed on to the pilgrims prior to the journey,” said Mr. Rahim. According to Mr. Rahim, the Central Haj Committee had relaxed its earlier decision to make polio vaccination mandatory to all pilgrims. “This time only those pilgrims below the age of 15 need be given a dose of polio vaccine prior to their trip,” Mr. Rahim said.
