ONGOLE: Concerned over spurt in ragging, eve teasing and sexual harassment among adolescents, the Prakasam District Legal Services Authority has planned to set up legal aid clinics in both colleges and high schools soon. A preparatory meeting with principals of colleges and headmasters of high schools would be held in early August, Legal Services Authority Secretary and senior Civil Judge G. Ramgopal told reporters here on Thursday. “There is an increase in number of ragging, eve teasing and sexual harassment cases among students. There is an urgent need to provide legal awareness and conduct value-oriented programmes for them to address these social issues,” he said. In all 150 colleges and over 500 schools would be covered in the district, he informed. Such clinics would be started also in social welfare hostels, where students face a plethora of problems, he said, adding he had visited a few hostels for the purpose. Awareness would be created among Students on legal provisions and also on ethical aspects, he said. Many of the problems faced the society were as result of the break up of the traditional joint family system, he observed.
