CHENNAI: Hours after the Director of Government Examinations lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Branch (CCB) that ten candidates had submitted fake mark sheets at the counselling for MBBS admissions, the Chennai Police obtained specific clues about a major racket involved in printing/sale of fake Plus Two mark sheets in the State. “We are closing in on a few suspects against whom prima facie evidence has been established. The role of an employee in the Education Department is strongly suspected. Special teams under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (CCB) C. Sridhar have been formed to apprehend the suspects,” Commissioner of Police (in-charge) Sanjay Arora told TheHindu here on Thursday. Investigators would probe the source, supply and distribution network of the racket. Preliminary enquiries indicated that the mark sheets were not printed in one place. Investigation was on to ascertain how many were involved in the racket, who were the beneficiaries and since when the suspects were operating.
