Contrived report, says Swamy

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The report (in Business Line, July 15, 2010) that the Union Law Ministry has opined to the Prime Minister's Office that the 2G spectrum allocation “is perfectly legal, contradicting my contention in a writ petition in the Delhi High Court that it is not, is an inane and contrived report to protect the corrupt,” Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said here on Thursday.

“The point missed out by the Legal Cell of the Ministry is that the judgment of the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court holding [that] the arbitrary advancement of the cut-off date eliminating applicants other than Swan and Unitech is illegal still stands and it is so recorded by the Supreme Court. It is only after making this observation that the Supreme Court with the consent of all parties, including me, disposed of the Government's SLP against the STel. It appears thus from this inane opinion of the Ministry that the quality and intelligence of the Union Law Ministry has undergone a severe decline in standard since when I held the portfolio as a Minister of Law,” Dr. Swamy said.
