THANJAVUR: The police arrested 27 cadre of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) and Communist Party of India (CPI) here on Thursday when they tried to stop buses and take out a procession towards Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission demanding its closure.
They were protesting against the arrest of Vaiko, General Secretary of MDMK, P.Nedumaran, Tamil Nationalist Movement leader and others in Chennai on Wednesday.
The cadre demanded immediate release of Vaiko and others.
Arrested persons include Durai Balakrishnan, state deputy general secretary of MDMK, Udhayakumar, district convenor and Krishnan of Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam of CPI.
