Fake naxals held; MPTC among those arrested
Staff Reporter
ELURU: A gang of fake naxalites was nabbed after its members walked into a trap laid by a special team of police led by Kovvuru DSP G. Janaki Sharmila on Thursday.
The gang members were Rapaka Sriramulu, an MPTC member from Bodlada village, Bommera Yellaiah Gowd, a former sarpanch from Yerrapalligudem village, and Ponugoti Venkateswara Rao, a realtor from Rayaparthi village. All of them hail from Nellikuduru mandal of Warangal district.
They were arrested following a complaint lodged by Andru Ramesh, president of the Quarry Owners Association, that he had received a phone call from a person claiming to be a naxal and demanding Rs. 8 lakh in cash for ‘purchase' of weapons. The DSP formed a special team, comprising the Kovvuru CI Varma, Nallajarla SI Raghu and Kovvuru SI Chinnakondala Rao.
