CHENNAI: Planning to do up your home with the mid-term incentive expected soon or spring a pleasant surprise to all at home before the festival season? Well, it is certainly worth paying a visit to the five-day ‘ The Hindu Retail Plus Utsav 2010', which opened at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam on Thursday. From a choice of furniture, kitchen ware, automobiles, electronic goods to nitty-gritty items that add a touch of glamour, they are all showcased at the exhibition. Besides, the arrangement of the pavilions should be a breeze to walk through. The Utsav was inaugurated by actor Arun Vijay.

“I am the last-minute shopper, and love to add to my wardrobe,” said Arun Vijay, who recently completed a six-month course in skydiving. The actor accompanied by his wife Aarathi went around the exhibition.

The festival of shopping starts from now and with the offers and discounts on store for Aadi, this is the ideal time to shop, said many of those who have put up stalls.

The pavilions showcasing furniture is one of the highlights. Check out the bucket shaped sofa sets – they are hollow, made of foam leather and are light-weight. If those cable, TV wire and other extension cords are spoiling the beauty of the drawing room, then one of the stalls has a multi-cord binder to organise the messy wires together.

The onyx stone from Karachi carved to different shapes — candles, wine glass and vase — are aesthetic gifts to stock for the future. Carpets, kundan and lac bangles from Rajasthan and frames from Malaysia, there is something easy for every pocket at the ‘ The Hindu Retail Plus Utsav 2010'. As two siblings on a shopping spree said: “We did not come with any serious intention to buy, but then there is plenty to choose. We are sure going to go back with bagful of purchases.” The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. till July 19.

The entry fee is Rs.40 per person. The event is co-sponsored by First Step & Prop Shell. Radio Partner for the event is Suryan FM 93.5 FM and the water partner is REPUTE.

The Event Partner for the show is I Ads and Events.
