HMWSSB allocates funds to wards

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced the allocation of Rs.1 lakh per ward per quarter in divisions where both water and sewerage functions are there and Rs. 50,000 each if only water supply is being done.

The decision was taken to comply with the constitution of ward committees for the 150 wards of GHMC.

The Board has designated managers (engineering) of the operations & maintenance division as the ward-level officers for the committees, which will be presided over by the corporators concerned bimonthly.

Repairs of manhole, desiltation, water supply regulations, pollution-related complaints, chockages, illegal connections, road restoration, etc., are to be taken up.

New fogging machines

Meanwhile, Mayor B. Kartika Reddy handed over 23 potable fogging machines each costing Rs. 60,000 to the Entomology wing for anti-larva operations.

There are already 56 potable fogging machines in operation to tackle the mosquito menace.

Fogging operations will be taken up from 6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in lanes and bylanes, slums and diseased report areas.

Fire safety drill

GHMC's fire prevention wing took up fire safety drill in about 11 schools to commemorate the horrendous fire mishap at Kumbakonam in Tamil Naidu.

Students were taught emergency procedures of evacuation, protection from smoke, using wet blankets/towels, using staircase , calling a fire brigade, usage of fire extinguishers' etc.

Fire officials D.R.B. Raju and Sk. Saleem Khan appealed to school managements to conduct fire drills on their premises to familiarise students in emergency plan of action along with the dos' and don'ts.

A booklet too was released on the occasion.
