NEW DELHI: German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Friday launched its flagship super sports car SLS AMG in the Indian market. Priced between Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 2.50 crore, SLS AMG is powered by a 6.2 litre engine and equipped with speedshift sports transmission to give a maximum speed of 317 km per hour. Interestingly, since its presentation at the Delhi Auto Expo in January this year, SLS AMG has already achieved 10 confirmed customer bookings from Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Ahmedabad. India has also become the first right-hand drive (RHD) market to have the SLS AMG, the aviation-inspired sports car with its doors designed like gullwing. “We are very excited to come with SLS in India. We have started the production couple of weeks ago in Germany,” said Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Wilfried Aulbur after commercially launching the car here. The sports car will have a waiting period of 6-8 months before it is delivered. It is the first independently developed vehicle by AMG in its history spanning over 40 years. It not only took AMG, the performance brand within Mercedes-Benz Cars, into a new era, but also demonstrated development expertise of the very highest order, Mr. Aulbur added. According to Ola Kaellenius, Global CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, “Today, India joins the elite ranks of the first few RHD markets globally to launch this mean machine. Given the strong demand for this car, I assure you that it is really a very strong and positive statement and shows the esteem that India as a market holds for us.”
